Materials Engineer

We design and manufacture the multi award-winning Endolite range of lower limb prostheses and provide clinical services to the NHS, military and patients internationally. We have an exciting opportunity for a Materials Engineer to join our industry leading research and development team based in our rapidly growing facility in Basingstoke.

Working as a Materials Engineer will encompass research, process development and technical support for all the material related aspects of the NPD projects. You will have the opportunity to take an innovative approach, to develop new products and manufacturing processes, using creative initiative and sound engineering principles.

Prosthetics and Orthotics is a unique and bespoke industry, therefore this is a great opportunity for the successful engineer to work with award winning products, working with the very best engineers in the industry, to really support manufacturing.

Responsibilities of the Materials Engineer:

  • Champion projects from initiation to pre-production
  • Develop testing processes
  • Share scientific and technological skills with colleagues within the NPD team
  • Train manufacturing technicians in new processes specific to new product launch
  • Review regulatory requirements for medical devices to ensure compliance for new product development
  • Over-check compliance to design, engineering details and product specification


Requirements of the Materials Engineer:

A strong background in Materials Science and Technology, as well as working with thermoplastics and Thermosetting Polymers, including silicones and polyurethanes, and composites materials such as carbon and glass fibre products is essential. Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment is also highly advantageous.

Ideally, candidates will hold an Honours Degree in Material Science and Technology or equivalent and will have demonstrable experience in a relevant role.

The successful candidate will have good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate technical information effectively. You will have a flexible, positive and professional working style with the ability to manage the development and implementation of processes effectively. You will have the ability to manage priorities and work proactively and efficiently, with strong problem solving skills and excellent attention to detail.
