Blatchford is a world leading rehabilitation provider with clinical expertise in prosthetics, orthotics, special seating and wheelchairs. We design and manufacture the multi award-winning Endolite range of lower limb prostheses and provide clinical services to the NHS, military and patients internationally. We have an exciting opportunity for a Development Engineer, to join our industry leading development hub based in our rapidly growing facility in Basingstoke.

Working as a Development Engineer will encompass the design and development of prototype parts, tooling, fixtures and jigs. You will also be developing processes that support the company quality plan and building the complex assembly shell, which supports process security and the introduction of end of line testing.

Working with the Senior Engineers, you will use your skills and experience to take responsibility for:

  • Preparation of tooling, fixtures and jigs for assembly.
  • Developing and implementing tooling and production process.
  • Supporting project champions in the execution of pre-production development batch.
  • Assisting in the documentation of tooling and process controls.
  • Assisting in the creation of procedures, work instructions and compliance.
  • Developing models using rapid prototyping techniques

A good understanding of jigs, tooling and assembly processes is essential, together with strong, proven experience in a precision manufacturing environment, ideally with a background working in an agile Research and Development team. Experience of working in a regulated industry, such as medical, aerospace, defence, marine or automotive would be advantageous.   

The successful candidate will have good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise and negotiate at all levels. You will have a ‘hands on’ approach, with a flexible and positive working style. You will have the ability to manage priorities and work proactively and efficiently, leading by example to motivate others.

Candidates will be qualified at HND, or equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject and will have extensive post-graduate experience in a relevant role.

The role is full time and permanent; working 36.5 hours a week Monday to Friday, with an early finish on Friday’s.
