On Saturday 18th August, Blatchford proudly sponsored Superhero Series for their annual Superhero Triathlon at Dorney lake, the UK’s one and only disability sports series for the Everyday Superhero. The aim was to create a fun and inclusive event in which people with disabilities strive to achieve personal goals and don’t have to worry about cut off times or equipment restrictions. On the day, the event certainly lived up to that aim.
As part of our commitment to improving the lives of our patients, we are proud to support inclusive events such as the Superhero Triathlon, be a reliable source of technical knowledge and share the life changing work we do in the community.
As the Prosthetics Technical Partner, our clinical professionals were on hand throughout the day providing support for any adjustments required and answering questions about prosthetics, everything from the fundamentals to the very technical. Mike Taylor, Prosthetist from Crystal Palace/Headley Court, commented “the Blatchford stand looked fantastic, it was great fun and loved being part of the fantastic team.”
We were also pleased to partake with our very own Super Celebrity Team captained by GB Para Triathlete Steve Crowley and competition winners, Stevie Soars and Graham Edwards. Graham thoroughly enjoyed the day, commenting “I feel very blessed to have been chosen to take part in such a beautifully put together event and to be part of Steve’s team alongside Blatchford really was one of the best things I’ve done since becoming a below knee amputee and only fuels my hunger to keep going forth in the world of Para Triathlon.”
Our smoothie bikes were also a great success and received quite a bit of attention throughout the dnd we were really impressed with the amount of pedalling going on. It was fantastic to see little Rueben pedalling a bike for the first time with assistance from our Training & Education Prosthetist, Laura Richie. Laura was also very excited to race Clare Balding at the end of the day in what must be the most obscure race in history.
See if you can spot our bright pink shirts on the Superhero Tri Channel 4 coverage which will be aired on Saturday 1st September 2018 at 11:30.
