BAPO 2009- Endolite gets Prosthetists Skiing on Echelon Feet
The Blatchford Team attended the annual BAPO conference at the DeVere White’s Hotel in Bolton Wanderer’s stadium on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th March. The Blatchford conference theme this year was sports activities and delegates flocked to the Blatchford Stand to try out the Wii Fit skiing game and check out the new 150kg system for active amputees.

Competitors strapped on a pair of Echelon feet which were connected to ‘ski’ boots and, after a practice run through the ramps and stairs of the conference centre, dashed down the Wii slalom run. The famous Blatchford Scoreboard kept tally of the race times and events and skiers competed for a whole range of liquid prizes e.g.:

Jane Muir won the fastest race time and received a selection of wines including a bottle of French Champagne.

Laura Hillis and Morag Marks came 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The person achieving the slowest time won a bottle of English Champagne! Collete Shaw won the prize for the most spectacular fall and will hopefully remain seated whilst enjoying a celebration tipple!!

Other Blatchford activities at the show were free papers and presentations by staff:

• Joe McCarthy gave a paper on “The effects of Foot Function on Socket Interface pressures and Locomotion during various walking    activities”
• Steve Seccombe presented “Diagnosis of Plantar Fasciatis and methods to effectively treat the condition”
• John Ross and Ken McCrea presented “Prosthetic care for the obese/bariatric patients...can we safely treat these patients?”

Our orthotic products launched at BAPO ware the latest additions to the Camino Shoe range of orthopaedic shoes, a new range of shoes that has proved very popular with Orthotists throughout the UK.

The closing activity at the BAPO show was the horse racing game in which a very tired team of Blatchford punters showed their dubious betting prowess by coming fifth!
