Biomimetic Foot with full ankle motion launches January 1st 2009

Endolite’s Echelon Foot, a breakthrough in prosthetic’s technology, launches in the UK and France in the New Year
The Echelon Foot, with unique, variable control hydraulic ankle offers amputees the most natural gait. The hydraulic element combined with carbon foot springs mimics the visco-elastic nature of human muscle. Taken from nature designed using bio-mimetics the controlled ankle gives supreme adaptability on all terrain.

On sloping ground the foot adapts to the environment, so the body doesn’t have to. The result is perfect loading symmetry between the limbs. When the wearer sits the toe relaxes downwards giving a totally natural appearance.

Tested on a range of amputees in the UK and USA the foot has elicited the most positive comments we have ever experienced in a foot trial. These are some of the responses:

“Each day I can do something I couldn’t do the day before”

“It’s an epiphany”

“I’m glad that there’s someone, somewhere sitting on a computer making our lives better”

“It takes away all the pain”

The Echelon has rapidly gained popularity in the US after its release in October and many veterans of the Iraq and Afghan wars are enthusiastically wearing the foot.
Designed by the Blatchford Design team in Basingstoke, UK, the foot represents a significant innovation in the field of prosthetics.
