ISHWAR: the Indian based society dedicated to enhancing the lives of disabled people internationally, recently played host to Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of the Govt. of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
Mr. Surinder Metha, President of ISHWAR, addressed a warm welcome to Smt. Dikshit on the occasion at which she was invited to present wheelchairs and walking aids to individuals injured in the Delhi bomb blasts that occurred during Diwali celebrations in October 2005.
The ISHWAR Governing Committee uphold the ethos of the organisation by launching clinics and sponsoring activities to improve community integration and employment of people with disabilities. All the limbs supplied by ISHWAR are either free of charge or for a suitable donation from the recipient, depending on the circumstances, and ISHWAR has been active in helping to restore shattered lives following numerous natural and terrorist disasters in the region.
• Prosthetic feet for victims following the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan
• Artificial limbs for the many injured in the Karol Bagh bomb blasts in 1998
• Calipers and Artificial limbs for disabled children of Sucheta Kriplani Shikhsha Niketan
• In conjunction with the US charity Many Caring Hands supplied callipers for 50 children following polio related surgery in 2005
• Fitted 50 free limbs at the inauguration by Smt. Dikshit of the new P&O centre in Delhi in January 2005
• Donated and fitted 72 prostheses following the 2002 Gujarat earthquake
