Blatchford Momentum Clinic

Momentum® is an innovative custom carbon fibre Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO). Designed to partially off-load the foot and ankle to stabilise and relieve pressure and pain following complex lower limb injury. The unique design and carbon fibre construction is lightweight yet strong, making the brace ideal for both daily use and high impact activities.

Ben's Momentum BraceMomentum is designed for patients with debilitating foot and ankle injuries, such as drop-foot, peripheral nerve injuries, pain due to complex fractures or multiple surgeries, and those considering ankle fusion surgery or elective amputation.

With carbon fibre struts that work much like prosthetic running blades it stores and returns energy to provide a spring in your step enabling participation in high impact activities such as running. Each brace is bespoke with the optimal alignment, spring strength and off-loading customised to each individual user.

Military Background

The original IDEOTM Brace was designed by the US Military and shared with the British Military as part of a programme for sharing best practice. Blatchford, who provides prosthetic and orthotic services to the Ministry of Defence, worked on making a UK version which is lighter and stronger and has successfully fitted many patients with Momentum, allowing them to continue their active lifestyles.
